Biography
16 May 1801–26 Nov. 1873. Sheriff, farmer, teacher. Born in Hartford, Windsor Co., Vermont. Son of Paul Pitkin and Abigail Lothrop. Moved to Hiram, Portage Co., Ohio, by 1820. Sheriff of Portage Co. Married first Amanda Egglestone, 8 Feb. 1829, in Portage Co. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by JS, 17 May 1831, at Hiram. Moved to Jackson Co., Missouri. Moved to Clay Co., Missouri. Ordained a teacher, 10 Sept. 1834, in Clay Co. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, by Aug. 1837. Appointed sheriff of Caldwell Co., summer 1838. Moved to Pike Co., Illinois, spring 1839. Ordained a seventy. Appointed to serve mission to British Isles with Quorum of the Twelve, 6 May 1839. Moved to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, summer 1839; to Lee Co., Iowa Territory, by 1840; and back to Nauvoo, by 1841. Appointed to serve mission to Peoria, Peoria Co., Illinois, 3 July 1843. Moved to Davis Co., Iowa Territory. Wife died. Moved to Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska), 1846. Married second Sarah Ann Huffman. Arrived in Salt Lake Valley, 26 Sept. 1848. Appointed to serve mission to Society Islands, 10 June 1849. Moved to Ogden, Weber Co., Utah Territory, 1850. Moved to California and then to Oregon Territory. Returned to Ogden, ca. 1853. Moved to Payson, Utah Co., Utah Territory, spring 1858; returned to Ogden, by July 1858. Rebaptized by Thomas Green, 11 Feb. 1859. Moved to what later became Millville, Cache Co., Utah Territory, spring 1859. Died at Millville.
