Biography
14 Apr. 1787–12 Mar. 1847. Physician, farmer. Born in New Hampshire. Son of Benoni Patten and Edith Cole. Married first Abigail Stiles, 5 May 1810, in Vermont. Wife died, 19 Sept. 1821. Married second Hannah Ingersol, 25 Apr. 1824, in Greene Co., Indiana. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 18 Nov. 1832. Ordained an elder, 18 Nov. 1832. Moved to Jackson Co., Missouri, June 1833. Moved to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, before May 1837. Moved to Lee Co., Iowa Territory, by 1839. Appointed to Iowa high council, Oct. 1839. Served as recorder of baptisms for the dead in Iowa Territory, 1841. Died at Winter Quarters, unorganized U.S. territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska).
