Biography

10 Jan. 1803–3 Jan. 1877. Clergyman, gardener. Born in New York. Son of John Parrish and Ruth Farr. Married first Elizabeth (Betsey) Patten of Westmoreland Co., New Hampshire, ca. 1822. Lived at Alexandria, Jefferson Co., New York, 1830. Purchased land at Chaumont, Lyme Township, Jefferson Co., 1831. Baptized by Brigham Young, 20 May 1833, at Theresa, Jefferson Co. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Wife died of cholera at Rush Creek, Clay Co., Missouri, while accompanying him on expedition, 27 June 1834. Served mission to Missouri, Kentucky, and Tennessee with David W. Patten, 1834. Appointed member of First Quorum of the Seventy, 1835. Served mission to Kentucky and Tennessee with Wilford Woodruff, 1835. Worked as scribe for JS, 1835. Married second to Martha H. Raymond by JS, 3 Dec. 1835, at Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Appointed clerk of Kirtland Safety Society, 1836. Later appointed in place of JS as officer of society, July 1837. Accused of embezzlement and counterfeiting. Led movement of dissenters opposed to JS, 1837–1838. Excommunicated, Dec. 1837. Lived at Chardon, Geauga Co., 1840. Baptist clergyman in Fox River area of Wisconsin/Illinois, 1844. Clergyman at Mendon, Monroe Co., New York, 1850. Lived at Rockford, Winnebago Co., Illinois, 1860. Lived at Emporia, Lyon Co., Kansas, 1870. Wife died, 1875. Died at Emporia.
