Peterborough, New Hampshire
Summary
Located in south-central New Hampshire along Contoocook River, eighteen miles north of Massachusetts–New Hampshire border. Founded 1739. Incorporated as town, 1759. Population by 1840 about 2,200. First visited by Latter-day Saint missionaries during 1830s. Experienced significant Latter-day Saint conversions with proselytizing of Eli Maginn, beginning July 1841. Approximately 230 joined Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints between 1840 and 1850.
