1 Apr. 1780–1857. Jeweler. Born at Lanesboro, Berkshire Co., Massachusetts. Son of James Harris and Diana (Margaret) Burton. Married first Elizabeth, ca. 1800. Married second Margaret, who died in 1828. Moved to Batavia, Genesee Co., New York, by 1830. Married third Lucinda Pendleton, 30 Nov. 1830, at Batavia. Moved to Terre Haute, Vigo Co., Indiana, where baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Orson Pratt, 1834. Moved to Far West, Missouri, by 1836. Appointed to Far West high council and ordained a high priest, 7 Apr. 1838. Owned land at Adam-ondi-Ahman, Daviess Co., Missouri, 1838. Expelled from Missouri; moved to Illinois, by 1839. Appointed to high council in Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, 5 Oct. 1839. Nauvoo city alderman, 1841–1845. President of Nauvoo Coach and Carriage Manufacturing Association. Started west with Latter-day Saint exodus from Nauvoo, 1846. Bishop and member of high council at Council Bluffs, Iowa Territory, 1846. Died at Council Bluffs.
